The best and also the most comfortable time to go to Thailand is certainly the cool season from early November to late February when there are sunny days with refreshing occasional showers. If you go to places at high altitudes such as Chiang Mai you will not require rooms with air-conditioning during this season; at night the temperature drops and allows you a good sleep. Even in March the climate is still pleasant.
In April and May it is getting really hot, especially in northern and northeast Thailand. No reasonable person would stay voluntarily in the sun during early afternoons or would work outside if it can be done in the morning or evening. For travels to southern Thailand you have to bear in mind that the rainy season on the east coast (Ko Samui...)is from October through February and you can expect rain every day. The rainy season on the west coast however lasts from about April/May until October.
