Apartments and Mansions

If you intend to stay in a city for a longer period of time you might consider to rent a furnished apartment with kitchen, refrigerator, air-conditioning, TV and telephone instead of a hotel room. In Bangkok, the monthly rent for an apartment (depending on size and equipment) is between 10,000 and 40,000 Baht.
There is a one-month deposit for electricity. Monthly, weekly or even daily rates are available. Offers for apartment rental in Bangkok are found in the classifieds sections of Bangkok Post and The Nation newspapers.
In other large cities such as Chiang Mai, Pattaya and Phuket they are listed in special magazines published for tourists.
In some cities in the province the term 'Mansion' is used for this kind of accommodation. Considering the facilities the rent on a daily basis is far below a hotel with similar comfort.
Holiday Apartments or Houses

Only in a few places such as Pattaya, Ban Krut, Ko Samui, Phuket and Khao Lak offers for holiday apartments or houses are available. They comply with international standards, however they are cheaper. The kitchen is well equipped, but tourists use them seldom as the food in the Thai restaurants and food stalls is very reasonably priced and very delicious as well.
Monasteries often offer simple accommodation. A donation is advisable, it should amount to the room rate in a guesthouse. However, this is mainly possible for men only. In Suan Mokkh Monastery (South Thailand, close to Chayia) accommodation is also available for women. No comfort can be expected, suitable for people who search quietness or who like to meditate, or to learn about the life in the monasteries.
